The beginning of the year is a great time for reflection, thinking about the good times, and perhaps even looking for the silver lining in the struggles.
Here at CoupleTalk, we are very much interested in the strengthening of couples and marriages. Being grateful and expressing appreciation to the people in your life can really cause people to feel loved, and help them to stop and remember the good in others. Gratitude opens up our hearts to see the value of people and to cherish them. We all want to be loved and to love.
One of the first communication tools we teach in our CoupleTalk program is “Expressing Appreciations”. This type of expression can go beyond a simple thank you. Taking the time to actually tell your partner, one of the ways that you appreciate them, out loud, can go a long way in rebuilding and deepening your connection. If your partner isn’t in the same room with you, you can call them, or even send a text. Here are some simple ideas to appreciate in the new year:
Expressing appreciation to your partner is simply telling them:
- A quality you admire in them
- How they helped you out in some way
- Something that they do for you or for others
- How they made an extra effort for you
- Something from the past that you remember with appreciation
Why not give your first appreciation of the new year right now?
